Spotted Bee Balm - Monarda punctata
-
Monarda punctata, Spotted Bee Balm, is easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Though not considered aggressive, this species will spread by runners to form large clumps. A member of the mint family, it grows from 2-3′ with spotted two lipped yellow flowers. Each cluster of flowers is subtended by showy pink leaf bracts. The 3″ long toothed leaves can be used as a tea substitute and has a long summer blooming period. Provide good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew. Bee Balm is highly attractive to butterflies.
