Pennsylvania sedge, Carex pensylvaica, is a low-growing perennial sedge native to Central and Eastern North America. It typically grows in dry woodlands in full shade to part shade. Growing up to 12 inches tall and spreading by rhizomes, Pennsylvania sedge makes an excellent ground cover for dry, shady areas of the landscape.
