Mealycup Sage (Salvia farinacea), commonly known as Mealy Blue Sage or Blue Sage, is a versatile perennial native to Texas and Mexico. This plant is admired for its tall spikes of striking blue to violet flowers, which bloom profusely from late spring until the first frost. The flowers are complemented by silvery-gray, mealy foliage, giving the plant a distinctive, attractive appearance.

Mealycup Sage thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils with moderate moisture. It is drought-tolerant once established, making it a good choice for xeriscaping and low-water gardens. This plant is highly adaptable and can perform well in various soil types, including sandy and rocky soils.

Ecologically, Mealycup Sage is a magnet for pollinators. Its abundant flowers attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, providing a reliable nectar source throughout the growing season. This makes it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens and wildlife-friendly landscapes.

In landscaping, Mealycup Sage is appreciated for its long blooming period, ease of care, and vibrant flowers. It can be used in mixed borders, container gardens, and as a colorful ground cover. The plant's upright growth habit and showy flower spikes make it a striking focal point in any garden setting. By incorporating Mealycup Sage into your landscape, you can enjoy its beautiful blooms, attract pollinators, and enhance the ecological diversity of your garden.
