Foxglove Beardtongue 'Pocahontas' - Penstemon digitalis
-
Penstemon digitalis, ‘Pocahontas’, commonly known as Beardtongue, is an herbaceous perennial cultivar with lavender pink blossoms from April – June. Grown best in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils, this wildflower prefers full sun, where it can reach 3 – 4′ in height, with 2 – 3′ width. This cultivar differs from the straight species by its distinctive dark burgundy red stems and leaves which provide late-winter interest, contrasting the long flowering season of lavender blooms throughout spring. Highly beneficial to and favored by pollinators, its is a favorite of hummingbirds. A resilient perennial, this Beardtongue tolerates deer, drought, clay, and dry soil, making it a showy, low maintenance addition to any garden.
