False Solomon's Seal - Maianthemum racemosum
-
False Solomon’s Seal, Maianthemum racemosum, is a native, woodland perennial that grows in rich woods of the Eastern United States. The plant prefers moist shady locations, growing up to 3 feet tall under ideal conditions. It can form large colonies by slowly spreading through slowly spreading roots. The common name derives from its resemblance to true Solomon’s Seal, but it is easily distinguished by its flowers, which occur at the end of the stem. Clusters of beautiful, white flowers occur in spring and are attractive to pollinators. The flowers are followed by attractive red berries. False Solomon’s Seal is best planted in shady gardens or woodland areas.
