Eastern Columbine - Aquilegia canadensis
Aquilegia canadensis, commonly known as Eastern Columbine, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to eastern North America. It is admired for its distinctive red and yellow nodding flowers, which resemble the spurs of a bird. Eastern Columbine blooms from late spring to early summer, attracting hummingbirds and bees with its nectar-rich blooms. It thrives in partial shade to full sun and well-drained soils, commonly found in woodlands, rocky slopes, and open clearings. Growing up to 1 to 3 feet tall, it forms clumps of delicate, lobed foliage that add grace and texture to garden landscapes. Eastern Columbine is ideal for woodland gardens, naturalistic plantings, and native pollinator habitats, providing both ornamental beauty and ecological value.
