Yellow Coneflower - Echinacea paradoxa

Yellow Coneflower, scientifically known as Echinacea paradoxa, is a perennial wildflower native to the central United States. It is characterized by its striking yellow, drooping petals and prominent, cone-shaped center. This plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, making it adaptable to a variety of garden conditions.

In mid to late summer, Yellow Coneflower blooms profusely with large, daisy-like flowers that can reach up to 3 inches in diameter. The petals are reflexed downward, creating a distinctive appearance. These bright yellow flowers attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, providing them with a rich source of nectar.

Yellow Coneflower grows to heights of about 2 to 3 feet tall, with sturdy stems that hold up well in garden borders and prairie plantings. It is drought tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance. The plant's attractive seed heads persist into fall and winter, providing food for birds and adding interest to the garden during the colder months.

In landscaping, Yellow Coneflower adds vibrant color to perennial beds, butterfly gardens, and naturalized areas. It pairs well with other native wildflowers and grasses, creating a naturalistic and wildlife-friendly garden design. Its resilience, long-lasting blooms, and ecological benefits make it a valuable addition to gardens focused on sustainability and supporting local biodiversity.

    Small Plants + Slug

I ordered two Arkansas Cone Flower - Echinacea paradoxes. When removing the plants from their packaging I was shocked to find that one plant included its own slug! I was happy to have found it so it could not damage the plant more, but was surprised that no one noticed it when packaging the plants.

I was also a little disappointed in the size of the plants and that many of the leaves were already dead. They were definitely on the small side and not what I would consider mature.
