Calycanthus floridus, commonly called Sweetshrub or Carolina Allspice, grows easily in average, well drained soil in full sun to part shade. Sweetshrub is a deciduous shrub, forming a dense, rounded shape from 6-9′ tall. In late spring, large maroon-brown fragrant flowers up to 2″ across appear at the ends of short branchlets. Plant this native shrub close to living areas to best enjoy its fragrant flowers.
