Swamp Azalea 'Summer Eyelet' - Rhododendron viscosum
Native to swampy lowlands, this azalea is naturally tolerant of somewhat poorly draining soils but will not grow in soils where the roots are submerged in water. Swamp Azalea prefers open shade of tree canopy or dappled sunlight. The foliage of this species tends to scorch if it receives too much sun. Resist cultivating around this shallow root shrub.
Fragrant pale-pink flowers emerge in clusters soon after leaves are produced.
Sometimes referred to as Swamp Honeysuckle. The specific epithet comes from the Latin word viscosus meaning sticky in reference to its sticky (viscosus) corolla tubes.
Beatutiful addition to any woodland garden.
